[mingle] what's the dream and what's the reality?

Lately the castle's nights have been very clear and almost warm, even up so high among the clouds as they are. But regardless of the weather, they are generally peaceful nights, and few things seem to stir during them...apart from the castle's inhabitants, be it with late-night roving or with sleep. The dreams, by extension, are at least undisturbed...if maybe not always pleasant. That sort of thing tends to vary by the person, of course.

But now--and for several nights, consecutively--the castle residents may find their dreams starting to take on stranger shapes: memories they've never had, friends that don't usually arrive, strangers they've never seen. These odd impressions might cling and continue to confuse even upon waking, vivid as they were; was it really just a dream, or maybe something more...? Does that newcomer in your dream remember you there too, in the daytime?

Either way, there seems to be an strange energy in the air during these nights. And it's bringing dreams together.

This place is weird. And kinda scary (not that she'd admit that out loud). Who's that in the tube?

...But there are crayons and paper, so it can't be all bad. She picks one up and starts drawing.

She doesn't get very far before S-4 interrupts her. That's a little annoying, but she is curious what he drew. "Okay."

S-4 doesn't say anything about who is in the tube, but he does keep looking back at it with a mix of worry and affection. Looking closer, Sophie may be able to see that Sans-Serif is the one sealed inside of it.

S-4 turns the drawing around to show Sophie. "It's me, and there's my brother. And there's a house, and inside it is Dr. Gaster!"

As S-4 holds the picture out, the door of the house seems to open, and someone starts walking out.

"Why's--hey!"

Any questions she had about what Sans-Serif is doing completely disappear from her mind the moment the picture starts moving.

"S-4, look!"

"Hmm? What are you talking about?"

S-4 doesn't turn the page towards himself. He's practically frozen in place as the figure gets closer. It seems to be an unfamiliar man in a long white coat. The two skeletons waiting look to him, and then frown, looking about ready to run away.

He's not moving, so she grabs his hand and tries to turn the page herself.

"I think there's a bad guy in your picture!"

With Sophie's help, he's able to turn the picture towards him, but when he sees who's there, he just shakes his head.

"That's not a bad guy! That's one of the scientists. They never do anything bad. It's all for the sake of monsterkind."

She frowns. That doesn't sound right at all.

"But they're scaring you." She points at S-4 and Sans-Serif in the picture.

[systematicsupport]

"It's okay if I'm scared. The ends justify the means. That's what they say. A-And that they can't gain LOVE for what they're doing, because we aren't really alive."

The scientist grabs Sans-Serif and physically tears him away from the drawing of S-4.

"So it's okay. As long as my brother is safe, it doesn't matter."

[lostlegacy]

"That's wrong," she tells him. She couldn't tell him why, but she knows.

Then she turns back to the picture and yells, "Let him go!"

The scientist in the drawing finally stops, staring up at Sophie. It does let go of Sans-Serif... with one hand, and that hand is now reaching out towards Sophie, the paper rippling and starting to tear.

Sophie shrieks and grabs the nearest crayon. With it clenched in her fist the way another child might grip a knife, she starts scribbling in dark blue all over the scientist.

S-4 looks from Sophie to the ruined picture in shock.

"...Why did you do that?"

[lostlegacy]

"There was a bad guy in it!"

She wasn't about to let him hurt her friends!

[systematicsupport]

"I think you're confused... Sans-Serif won't like my picture now."

He frowns and puts the paper to the side.

[lostlegacy]

She frowns, too, and mutters. "He wouldn't like a picture with a bad guy in it."

She goes back to drawing. She'll show him what a good picture looks like.
