1) The Secret Lake
Nothing feels right the moment he begins to stir from his sleep. The ground against his back is harder stone than the marble he fell asleep on last night. There's no familiar warmth curled against his side or the sounds of his friends sleeping nearby. But he's not in any danger, right?
He slowly blinks open his eyes, reaching up to rub the sleep from them before moving to sit up. A quick look around and the sudden realization that this is definitely not the ruins he went to sleep in has him on his feet, hand resting on his sword in case anything jumps out at him...
...But he's alone, so he relaxes with a soft sigh.
"Where am I?" He wonders aloud to himself, turning to get a better look at his surroundings.
His attention is grabbed by the carvings along the wall and any remaining apprehension promptly leaves as he steps closer to get a better look. There's not much light, but reaching out to run his fingers along the shapes of the carvings helps him get an idea of what they're supposed to be.
"Dancing people, huh? I wonder what kind of place this was..." It's not so much that he's talking to himself, but rather that he's used to voicing his thoughts on things like this aloud so his companion can commentate or debate with him. Of course, Mikleo's not here, though...
The nearby sound of water moving catches his attention next, his head turning to look in the direction of the source. Water? Down here? He thought these things to himself as he shifted to move through the tunnel and towards the source of the sound. As much as curiosity is driving him to find out what kind of water source is in a place like this, a slight tension has returned to his shoulders. This area may've been safe, but he couldn't reasonably say that about any other place, let alone wherever the sound may lead him.
So he follows it, down this dark hallway of dancing people...

[OOC: I'm sorry this is late, school decided to take a shit on me so I wasn't able to focus as much as I wanted to on this and I kept writing it in small spurts OTL. I hope this is okay for a starter but if not just lemme know! Also I'm used to Tumblr RP so making OOC comments like this is commonplace on there and I haven't quite figured out yet how or if people do this on DW? I thought it was done in comment titles, but those have a character limit apparently. Feel free to correct me on this! EDIT: I knew I was going to forget something OTL. Feel free to tag this post in whatever style you prefer! I can do both para or bracket style. I'm partial to para myself, but I have no problem using whichever is more comfortable for you!]

no need to rush! things are usually kinda slow in this comm :] ooc talk is usually done over PM.
Date: 2016-10-18 12:09 pm (UTC)'Cause there is a lot of rock around the lake, if you don't get too close to the reedy and muddy banks. It's bigger than Frisk thought, too--the lake's definitely the main part, but there's lots of little alcoves and tunnels along the walls. Most of the tunnels are dead ends, but one let them out in the library, and another impossibly high in a tower.
So that's what they're doing right now: exploring, which is going better now that they've got wings and sometimes flames to light the dark.
...They're not really listening for people. Almost nobody comes down here, after all.
"Why are there so many hellions here?" the story of Sorey's life during this event lmao
Date: 2016-10-25 12:27 am (UTC)What's a horse doing down here? He wonders as he approaches the end of the hallway, catching a glimpse of the room beyond it.
The sound of hooves against the stone floor continues the closer he gets, but he's yet to see the source of that particular sound. He can see the lake now.
He hangs back by the entrance, tucked inside the shadows as he scans the open room. Whatever was making the sound has stopped and for a moment he thinks it might've moved on. That thought dissipates the moment he hears it to his left, whirling around with his hand on his sword just in case.
The sight of the hellion shocks him momentarily. He's still not sure where he is or if he's even still in Glenwood. By this point it shouldn't surprise him anymore that old ruins like these are crawling with hellions.
Despite how quickly he'd reacted to the noise, the hellion hasn't seemed to notice him yet which allows him to relax his shoulders for a moment--hand still firmly gripping his sword. While it's distracted, he takes the opportunity to observe it and try to think of a plan.
He hasn't felt the presence of any of his seraphim since waking up here. He doubts any of them are here which, if he took a moment to dwell longer on it, would leave him feeling empty and lonely. But he doesn't have time for that right now. Right now, he's contemplating if he can even purify anything without Lailah physically being there. Can he purify this hellion? Or is he helpless again like he was before he made the Shepherd's pact? He doesn't know the answer and won't know unless he tries.
Yet he's hesitating, now of all times. Despite the demonic appearance, this hellion seemed so child-like...human-like...not that he was any stranger to hellions of those types either. But if this was a human-borne hellion AND he was able to purify it, he'd need to be extra careful. His friends aren't here to help him if he gets overwhelmed by the burden. He'd need to plan carefully, only attack if it strikes first. Maybe it talks? If it talks, there might not be any need to fight at all.
It was a careless shifting of his weight as he adjusts his standing position to begin creeping closer. He hadn't meant to scrape his boot THAT loudly against the stone. He freezes.
welcome to stress kid
Date: 2016-10-25 10:26 pm (UTC)They hear something shift and they whirl, straightening sharply with wings spread wide, to make themselves look larger than they are. It's reflex.
Reflex that seems helpful right now, since they notice the hand on the sword a few seconds later. Great. They don't want to fight right now! They just want to explore! Why are there so many people suddenly showing up to bother them?
"Don't," they snap.
Eh, he'll learn to deal. Also JSYK "it" is only being used rn because all he sees is a hellion.
Date: 2016-11-01 04:44 pm (UTC)He doesn't want to hurt it if he doesn't have to. So as long as it doesn't start rushing him, his sword will remain sheathed.
The sharp command makes him wince a bit, but the child-like voice that accompanies it gives him pause. So the hellion definitely talks...but is it a child? If it's a child he definitely doesn't want to hurt it. A few moments more pass while they have a staredown. When the hellion still doesn't rush him he shifts slightly to hold up his other hand, palm out in a calming gesture.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. Do you have a name? Mine's Sorey."
got it -w-b also sry for the short replies!
Date: 2016-11-01 06:57 pm (UTC)"Yeah, I do, Sorey." They fold their arms, glaring sternly. "An' I'll tell you it when you get your hand offa that." They point at it with the sharp tip of their tail.
pretend these are Frisk icons please : (
Date: 2016-10-18 09:59 pm (UTC)Which is good, because they got here by getting lost in the ground. That wasn't fun. They don't know how As- Flowey can do it.
They flit from statue to statue, examining their features. They haven't noticed they might not be alone...
No problem! Sorry for the late reply OTL. Lemme know if I need to change anything!
Date: 2016-10-25 12:44 am (UTC)Just when he's about to pause to take a much-needed rest, a faint glow in the distance makes him think he's close to the end of the tunnel. Just a little further...then he can rest. So he keeps walking.
What he doesn't expect, upon getting closer, is the sight of a hellion!
"No way, a hellion?! Here?!" He shouts aloud out of habit, cringing immediately at how it echoes loudly down the remainder of the hall. A ghost hellion no less. This might be tough to purify on his own with his weak physical attacks...
He doesn't get a whole lot of time to react due to the sudden announcement of his presence, but his reflexes are at least trained enough that he has his hand on his sword ready to draw it in case he needs to defend himself.
haha! I found an icon! (everything's good)
Date: 2016-10-25 03:55 am (UTC)At the shout, Frisk's attention immediately snaps to him and they reflexively flick to invisibility. They definitely notice the hand on his sword, and even though they shouldn't be visible, they still put their hands up out of habit.
"It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you!"
Their voice is already pretty echoey, being a ghost, and in this small stone place they hope it will be impossible to pinpoint it entirely.
Woo! Trying this mobile tagging thing out.
Date: 2016-10-30 12:12 am (UTC)He knows better than to let his guard down just from that, though. So when the ghost masks its presence he keeps his hand firmly where it rests, looking around for any sign of it.
The small voice he hears afterwards is even more unexpected. He can't see the source, but he can only surmise it belongs to the ghost hellion.
A child? He contemplates to himself, hesitating for a moment before relaxing his body. His hand is no longer on his sword.
He's no stranger to talking hellions, but he can tell by the shaking in this tiny voice that this ghost might not be a run-of-the-mill talking hellion. That could be good or bad. He's choosing to believe the former.
Due to the echoing, he can't tell where exactly the voice came from, so he directs his attention back to where he last saw the ghost.
"Um...hello? Sorry for scaring you like that. My name's Sorey, what's yours?"
If the ghost is as young as the voice suggests, he doesn't expect trust to be gained so easily after that, but hopefully this at least puts them at ease.
: D
Date: 2016-10-30 04:44 am (UTC)They slowly fade back into view, and wave sheepishly.
"I'm Frisk! Sorry for um. Scaring you too."
Ordinarily at this point they'd come closer, but they don't want to spook him further.
"Nice to meet you, Sorey!... what's a hellion?"
Is is a type of monster? The way he reacted suggested it wasn't a misbehaving child...
^_^
Date: 2016-11-01 05:03 pm (UTC)"Don't worry about it! You didn't scare me too much."
Indeed it wasn't so much that he'd been scared, more like...cautious?
Now that he wasn't worrying about the nature of the ghost, he could actually see how small they are. There's no way this could be the kind of hellion he's used to...
"Frisk, huh? Nice to meet you too!" He greets, placing his hands on his hips and beaming brightly.
He breathes a hum at the question as he contemplates how to answer it. The fact it was even asked definitely suggests Frisk isn't familiar with them. He supposes that's not surprising. Plenty of humans in Glenwood couldn't see hellions either and would likely ask the same question....but Frisk is a ghost....hmm....
"They're a kind of monster that's born from and feeds off of negative energy. It's usually a bad sign when they're around. You don't...seem like a hellion though..."
There was certainly no malevolence coming off of Frisk...
(no subject)
Date: 2016-11-01 09:43 pm (UTC)"If they feed off negative energy, isn't that a good thing? That means it's gone, right?"
This time they do come a little closer.
"It's neat you thought I was one, though!"
Being compared to the same species as their old adopted family will never not make them happy.
these kids need to stop waking up in strange places (response to prompt 1)
Date: 2016-10-21 05:34 pm (UTC)Most disturbing of all, she cannot hear the sounds of any nearby townspeople. The bottom of this lake is deathly silent and suddenly none of this feels comforting at all.
She emerges from the water only to come face to face with an unfamiliar landscape. A shiver runs down her spine despite the sight only confirming her earlier suspicions. Wherever she is, it is not the Legacy (and something inside her whispers it might not even be Shining Blue).
She is just pulling herself onto land when she hears footseps. Instantly, her hand goes to her pocket and at the familiar feel of her quill pen she cannot help but let out a sigh. She can protect herself if need be.
But there's no need to be hasty.
"Who goes there?"
Nel don't you know waking up in strange places is a Tales staple?
Date: 2016-10-25 01:15 am (UTC)It catches him completely off guard, then, to suddenly hear a girl's voice calling out. It was so unexpected, in fact, that he ends up tripping on a slightly out of place tile. He yelps as he falls to the hard floor, the momentum making him slide a bit into the open room.
He groans a bit in pain after a moment when he tries to move again, pushing himself up to his knees before using one hand to rub gently at his arms.
"Owww." He'll live, but the fall was still painful.
He looks up after a moment when he hears a noise, noticing now the girl that had probably called out to him. Honestly, he hadn't expected to find any other humans down here, so the sight of someone was a relief.
"Oh, hey. Sorry for startling you," he greets, offering a kind smile. Or as much of one he can give before his cheek protests in pain.
As he moves to get up fully he takes note of the wet state of her clothes and his brows furrow as a result. Had she fallen into the lake? She didn't seemed bothered by it...but hadn't one of Gramps' lessons been that you should never see girls in wet clothes? He wasn't sure why, exactly, or what the big deal was, but he's pretty sure it went something like that.
"I, um, hope I'm not interrupting anything..." He starts awkwardly, lifting a hand to rub at the back of his neck, the unconscious action making him wince.
"I'm Sorey. What's your name?" Something about her felt calm and peaceful, so he didn't feel like he was in any danger.
i know and i worry for them, the dears
Date: 2016-11-01 06:29 pm (UTC)Still, she steps closer as he picks himself up off the ground. She feels her own mouth turn up at the sight of his bashful smile, though hers is a small timid one in comparison.
"Th-that's alright. I suppose I must have shocked you too, suddenly calling out like that."
His next words confuse her. Interrupting? As there was no one else around she was quite unsure as what he could be referring to. Out of habit she twists a strand of hair around her finger and the feel of the lake water on it causes her to bite her lip. That's right, if this man truly was human her appearance would seem odd wouldn't it.
(At least her hair didn't seem to be glowing anymore, that would be even harder to explain).
"I'm Shirley," she answered finally, walking up to him. "And please don't worry about me. You're the one who is hurt. Were you in those ruins when I called out to you?"
They should get that checked by a doctor
Date: 2016-11-12 01:54 am (UTC)At her question he nods again with a light hum of affirmation.
"Yeah. I woke up all of a sudden in one of the other rooms. I'm...not entirely sure where we are, to be honest," he explains, breathing a nervous laugh.
He looks briefly to the hallway he'd come out of before turning his attention back to Shirley. Finding out where they are and--more importantly--how to get out should probably be priority. That should be easier now that there's two heads instead of one.
"What about you? Were you, um, swimming?"
He can't imagine she woke up IN the lake, after all. He assumes she probably woke up somewhere else like he did and just got to this room first.
