Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jul. 11th, 2016 12:11 pmJack is a well-traveled sort. Winter goes everywhere, and so does he. Fun happens in most places, and therefore so does he. And while occasionally the various towns and cities of the world can blur together a bit, he's pretty sure he'd remember somewhere like this. Didn't castles like this go out of fashion not long after he came into being?
...in fact, as Jack stares up thoughtfully at the castle, he realizes that he doesn't remember arriving here at all. He doesn't remember arriving, setting out, or even deciding to set out. To someone who had only just gotten used to having all his memories where they belonged, it's not exactly a pleasant feeling. Maybe a yeti tossed him through another portal and he hit his head. Hopefully that means North is around here somewhere. Hell, he'd accept Bunnymund finally getting some payback for '68, just for the sake of having an explanation for all of this.
Either way, he's not getting anywhere just standing around.
Jack can be seen perched up on the beak of a stone swan in the middle of one of the fountains while he gathers his thoughts. But at last, he nods decisively and gives his staff a twirl. All at once, the water in the fountain freezes fast. Jack leaps down onto it, skates in a circle on his bare feet just for the hell of it, and then hops down onto the grass without missing a beat. He takes a few steps, and then frowns down at the ground. Jack jabs his staff down at it, and a cold wind blows. It brings with it a flurry of snow and a rush of ice that freezes the grass all around him into easily crunchable shards. He nods in satisfaction - summer days are boring and endless. Winter's where the fun is.
And so he amuses himself giving the landscape his own personal touch as he heads towards the castle. He freezes flowers into jewel-bright statues of themselves, makes the trees jingle by coating their leaves in ice, and freezes any other fountains he passes into tiny, temporary ice rinks. Snow forms beneath his feet as he goes, only to melt away behind him. He just finds it more comfortable to walk on than the warm, dry grass.
Once inside the castle, Jack abandons any pretense at subtlety. He zips through the hallways and flies up the stairs, or else makes ramps of ice to slide down them whenever his path takes him back down a floor. And all the while, he calls out for his friends and teammates: "North?! Toothiana?! Sandy?! Come on, guys, this isn't funny anymore!"
But only his own voice echoes back to him through the vast hallways of the strange castle.
((ooc: Encounter Jack outside the castle messing around with the landscape, or else inside making a noisy nuisance of himself. Replies are likely to be slow from this dude for a bit while I sort out other tags, but I didn't want to wait too much longer to bring him in. Also, just in case it comes up, I posted a permissions post for Jack that y'all might want to check out.))

Date: 2016-08-10 03:08 pm (UTC)"Castle in the...sky?" O-kay then. Jack casts a glance around, and...well, nothing seems out of the ordinary. But he knows better about that much at least, now.
He takes another look at Sans' face, just to be sure, before venturing: "You...don't just mean like 'high on a mountain', do you?"

Date: 2016-08-11 12:57 pm (UTC)Jack...isn't entirely sure why this, of all things, is suddenly what's hard for him to grasp. But it is. His expression goes thoughtful and a little stony.
"Has anyone seen what's on the ground? Because, uh, I could go and check for you guys." He executes a quick hop that results in him hanging in the air for rather longer than he should be, before touching down again.

Date: 2016-08-11 04:55 pm (UTC)"Never seen a human use magic before," He says nonchalantly, but with the undertone of a question in his voice. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't curious.
Maybe they ought to take this one thing at a time, though. Jack was new. Sans had his questions, sure, but the kid needed explanations a hell of a lot more than he did. Finally, he glances up at Jack and shifts where he's standing, relaxing at his own reassurance.
"Can't say anyone has. You can give it a shot if you want. Knock yourself out. Not literally, though. They told me falling down from here is a pretty bad idea."

Date: 2016-08-22 06:44 am (UTC)"It's...kind of a long story. But if it makes you feel any better, I really only used to be human?" And there's really no good way to continue on with that story without getting into remarkably depressing territory for a dude he just met. But if it helps Sans hold on to his worldview, then so much the better.
"So maybe I can make it. And I'll try not to knock myself out either way."

Date: 2016-08-22 04:29 pm (UTC)Because that really, REALLY piques Sans curiosity.
His eyes look slowly toward the general direction of "the edge" (kind of all around them, but) and lingers there. He stays quiet for a moment. Thinking. Then he shrugs, the casual attitude returning.
"If it works, let us know. A lot of us are kind of want off of here."
