Anyone hoping for peace in the castle is about to be sorely disappointed. A by-now familiar loud voice has a message to deliver, and he isn't about to wait for a convenient moment to do it.

"GREETINGS, BEAUTIES OF THE CASTLE! I HAVE AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE. IF ANYONE HAS HAD THE MISFORTUNE TO ENCOUNTER SOMEONE WHO LOOKS LIKE ME WEARING A TACKY TIN CROWN, I WANT TO MAKE IT ABSOLUTELY CLEAR: THAT WAS NOT ME. THAT IS AN UNBELIEVABLY RUDE COPY WHICH YOU SHOULD ALL IGNORE. ANY INSULTS, DEMANDS FOR APOLOGIES, AND KICKS TO THE FACE SHOULD BE DELIVERED TO HIM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

BY THE WAY, DARLING, YOUR LEGS ARE THIRD-RATE AT BEST."

Mettaton delivers the same message, more or less, several times in those places in the castle he's learned his voice carries the best. He also shouts it in the courtyard and by the forest for good measure.

The nerve.

Dhaos freezes in place as soon as he hears that voice. That very loud, angry voice. Is that Mettaton?

Of course it's Mettaton. Well, if there's an imposter running around, Dhaos should probably know about it... He follows the voice until he finds its source.

Too bad there aren't any journals, or Mettaton could just make a castle-wide announcement.

Mettaton is just gearing up for another round of announcements when he catches sight of that delightfully tall, blond, and handsome man from his party. Time to answer a few questions.

"Ah, there you are, darling," he greets him. "I hope you heard my extremely important announcement. Did you?"

Hey, love is allegedly blind, Vyc!

What's this? Dhaos is approaching someone on his own? ...Well, Mettaton hasn't known Dhaos long enough to know how unusual that is. "I did. Is there an impostor loose?"

...Oh dear. Ryoji had a bad feeling that a copy of Mettaton would not go over well with the version already here, but he honestly doesn't know why he didn't expect this.

What's Mettaton's problem anyways? He wasn't that rude, really. He was just a little confused! Ryoji can understand that, considering how he was when he arrived here. And his legs were just as... well-built as ever!

Ryoji rushes over to his friend, hands immediately up like he's trying to soothe a wild animal.

"Mettaton-san, please try to calm down!"

Ryoji is upset, and normally that would mean dropping everything to cheer him up, but not today. Oh, not today, and not ever, as long as he's in the castle.

"How can you possibly expect me to be calm when that--that fourth-rate version of me is out there ruining my reputation?" he demands, pacing about. "It's a disaster!"

[notsogrimreaper]

"I don't think he's really fourth-rate. He seemed alright to me. Is it really a disaster having another you here? I-I mean, Sans handles it well enough."

He's hoping he doesn't end up offending Mettaton with what he's saying, but he honestly didn't see the harm in the other Mettaton.

The aviary is noisy, but not that noisy. The parrot's cannibalistic ballad is interrupted and the flock goes wild with Mettaton's announcement. Chara idly picks up one of the feathers they've dropped and smooths it out. They always assumed they hated themself more than anyone else. Yet even in their original distaste at the idea of another version of them, they weren't nearly as resentful of it as the Mettatons themselves. For heaven's sake, it's because of the actions of the first Chara that everyone assumes they're still a genocidal killer, and they're handling this more maturely than two adult robots (were they adults? they think so) who had done nothing to each other but exist and exchange catty insults.

Chara snickered. The Mettatons really were all talk, no bite, and all legs.

In the middle of striding down the hallway, Frisk freezes to listen.

And then they sigh.

...This is not going to be fun.

Frisk I apologise for your ridiculous uncle.

[mediadarling]

On his way to make his next announcement, Mettaton runs into someone he'd very much been hoping to see. Instantly, his cranky expression transforms into one of joy.

"Frisk, darling! There you are!" He strides forward, ready to scoop them up in a hug. "Did you hear my announcement?"

They hug back without resistance. He might notice their expression is a little odd, though.

"...why're you mad?"

The first time the Batman hears the announcement he's a little surprised, but more bemused than annoyed. But then Mettaton repeats the announcement several times throughout the castle and the Batman's sensitive ears are able to pick up on it almost every single time.

So when Batman hears the same angry tirade again, and nearby Chara's tower at that, he's finally exasperated enough to head out and find Mettaton himself.

And he greets the robot with a rather deadpan, "Is this really necessary, Mettaton?"
