There's nothing wrong with crying, usually. They just think it's too much for presents. They're just being nice, and they've been nice to them plenty of times before--this is just a nice thing they can hold onto and keep.
Frisk peeks around the book's edge. Maybe they're being too dramatic, making other Frisk (and Chara) hide their face at the same time, if only for a minute.
"Mm-mm. I'm just...um. Dunno. I'm happy. Even 'f I didn't...think I'd have anything." They sniff again, then slide the book halfway down their face. Time for a little deflection, and seriousness: "Yours is soon."
