It makes for practice and readjustment with an audience who probably isn't going to laugh too much at him for messing anything up (namely: Sans, among others). Isolation makes one's communication skills rusty, it turns out, but he can't expect everyone to understand signing, so he'll make the effort now when it isn't so critical.
