He couldn't stop it, and Barnaby harshly reminds himself that he's responsible for this too, for breaking down in front of a child who doesn't deserve to be roped into all of this. He should have gotten away sooner. Should have just turned this off before it happened.
(But emotions can't be turned off, no matter how much Maverick seemed to think so, and Barnaby can remember the condescending tone in his voice when he faced a man who had just suffered the loss of his caretaker and one of his few surviving family figures and asked him if he had calmed down yet-)
He's going to be sick. He feels something warm at his side and can only choke back a sob. His ears are covered and he's crying too loud but... but he knows Frisk is saying something, if only he can manage to listen. He puts his attention on that, very slowly tries to take his hands away as he filters out everything else but the voice. He shudders at the touch at first, but doesn't pull away.
