She knows better than to let his question completely distract her. Being a mother and a teacher is more than enough preparation for dealing with anyone trying to dodge a question. Oddly, in a way, it gives her the answer just by trying to dodge it: there probably isn't a good reason. It's either similar to Frisk's breakdown or it's mindless violence, and she's not sure which is worse.
