the aviary seems pretty popular

Anyone in or around the aviary may be subjected to a series of loud crashes, accompanied by a shout of alarm and lots of angry tweeting.

One moment Uriel was trying to land on the ground from the open air, and the next there was a roof over her head and a tree in her way. She had simply been going too fast to slow down or avoid it, so down through the branches she went, sending leaves, twigs and birds shooting off in every direction.

Ow.

By stretching her wings Uriel manages to slow her descent before she reaches the ground, though that still leaves her stuck in a tree she'll have to extricate herself from. Only once she's sure she's not going to crash down another few feet by moving does she take a moment to feel relieved.

Now, where is she...?

"Whoa!"

Sophie's eyes go huge as suddenly everything gets loud: birds screaming, branches snapping, and the sound of someone falling hard at high speed. Without meaning to, she backs away, Xelques long gone, until she's pressed up against the wall.

When all of the noises stop--well, except for the birds--Sophie takes a small step forward to see what in the world happened. In seconds, she finds the person responsible for all the racket, and she takes in a breath to say hi when--

Wings.

Sophie gasps and runs for the door. She has to go get Gee Girl.

She tries not to notice how empty her back feels.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah Sophie has not had a great time since leaving Luceti

Sometime later, Sophie returns, leading (or, well, dragging) Gee Girl by the hand. As they walk through the door, Uriel should be able to hear her saying, "See? She has wings. And she needs help."

"Oh, my," Grune says when she catches sight of Uriel. She stops in place, and Sophie stands in front of her, almost on her toes. Poor dear.

She raises her voice a little and calls, "Hello! Do you need help?"
lostinmyway: (Small happiness.)

"My, that isn't very nice. Don't worry," she assures their new friend. "We'll get you down. Right, Sophie?"

Sophie hangs back as Grune bustles forward, just...looking at the lady with the wings.

Finally, quietly, she says, "...Yeah," and goes to help.

lightofthestars: (Truly?)

[personal profile] lightofthestars 2016-01-05 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Tauriel could have had the faint hearing of a Human and she still would have noticed the great noise coming from the bird-house. It is the sound of destruction, one that has her running swiftly for its source. The children often spend time in that place, and if something dangerous has occurred....

When she steps inside the tower, she gasps, and a hand claps over her mouth. That--that woman has wings.

But she also appears to be trapped. Whatever manner of being she is, Tauriel cannot ignore her distress.

"Greetings," Tauriel calls out, stepping closer. "Are you in need of aid?"
lightofthestars: (Let us speak.)

Ulmo doesn't have a standard Sindarin name so I'm just gonna pick one of the three I found sob

[personal profile] lightofthestars 2016-01-07 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am Tauriel." She holds her hands spread before her. Though she carries knives, they remain sheathed. "I mean you no harm."

Though she tries to speak calmly and with authority, there is yet a touch of wonder in her voice. Is she like Elwing, granted a change by Ulu--but only part of the way?
lightofthestars: (A poor suggestion.)

ALSO FUN FACT: Tauriel thinks Uriel is Ûriel, "Daughter of Fire." Enjoy your new name meaning, Uri!

[personal profile] lightofthestars 2016-01-20 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
At once, the wonder vanishes from her. Though she may be but a Silvan Elf, she has her pride, and this Ûriel has grievously offended it.

"Will I indeed?" Her hand goes to her hip. "It seems to me you are in a poor place to speak without respect."

Frisk was just passing by--had passed by, already pretty far down the hall away from the tower--but all that horrible noise sent them running back.

Their head pokes through the door, tilting as they glance around quickly.

...An angel? A not-very-graceful angel. Huh.

They suppose they should try helping, but they're not sure how. They step inside the room anyway, since just walking away right now would probably be rude.

[personal profile] dustless 2016-01-20 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"...hi," they reply, just as shortly. At least she doesn't sound hurt?

They glance around the room, hoping to somehow spot a ladder they might've missed on previous visits.

[personal profile] dustless 2016-03-08 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Nope, doesn't look like there's any sort of climbing stuff around.

They take a few steps closer to the tree. "You're an angel?" they guess aloud. They don't know much about those, except that they're supposed to guard people, or something.

Giles doesn't actually spend a lot of time near the aviary. Mostly because he finds the peacocks mildly terrifying at best. But he's out in the garden and near enough to the building in question to overhear the commotion, and know that even the most agitated birds couldn't possibly cause that much of a fuss.

He's been in this situation enough times to know that whether it's a newcomer, a fight, or both, the situation warrants investigation. So Giles hastens over as quickly as he can when cutting a path through the fairly dense undergrowth, finally stumbling to a stop at the door of the aviary. He casts a wary glance around for people or peacocks, finally calling out:

"Um, h-hello? Is there someone hurt in here?"

That proves to be especially difficult in a tree when one of the parrots nesting in it tries to return after being startled away, only to find Uriel where its nest should be. It lands on a branch just above her instead, squawking and chattering in anger and alarm. Right on cue, a few of its fellows flap over to join it in chastising the intruder, attempting to threaten the stranger with flared wings and clicked beaks.

That makes it much easier for Giles to zero in on the newcomer, even if he finds himself half-raising his hands above his head in anticipation of attacks by angry birds. Not to mention that it should hopefully let the stranger see that he truly means no harm.

"Ah, hello? There's no cause for alarm." About him, at least. "Hold on, I'll, I'll try and find a way down for you."

[personal profile] consultmybooks 2016-03-16 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It only takes having his glasses stolen by a flock of magpies once to make Giles wary of birds forever. He's absolutely certain the ones back home weren't this evil.

"Right. Um." He glances around a bit helplessly, before noticing something on the outside of the aviary dome. "Just hang on. I'll be back in a minute." He hurries off.

Presumably back when this castle was occupied, the birds were actually taken care of by a groundskeeper. The groundskeeper is long gone, but he left a shed behind, and in that shed is a variety of equipment one might need in order to take care of birds. Including a ladder.

It's a bit awkward, but Giles manages to retrieve it and bring it back to the tree.
