[mingle] what's the dream and what's the reality?

Lately the castle's nights have been very clear and almost warm, even up so high among the clouds as they are. But regardless of the weather, they are generally peaceful nights, and few things seem to stir during them...apart from the castle's inhabitants, be it with late-night roving or with sleep. The dreams, by extension, are at least undisturbed...if maybe not always pleasant. That sort of thing tends to vary by the person, of course.

But now--and for several nights, consecutively--the castle residents may find their dreams starting to take on stranger shapes: memories they've never had, friends that don't usually arrive, strangers they've never seen. These odd impressions might cling and continue to confuse even upon waking, vivid as they were; was it really just a dream, or maybe something more...? Does that newcomer in your dream remember you there too, in the daytime?

Either way, there seems to be an strange energy in the air during these nights. And it's bringing dreams together.

Sans has the pile of forms he's busy working his way through stacked uncharacteristically neatly, the better to leave as much table space as possible for S-4 to work. There's always paperwork, it's a part of science just as much as the test tubes and the chemicals, but that shouldn't interfere with S-4's routines any more than necessary. Art therapy is an important part of his day, as necessary as the agility tests. He considers it more important, even if Sans has given up having that argument with his colleagues.

When S-4 taps his shoulder, Sans looks up, smiling in encouragement of whatever his charge has to say. "sure thing, bud. what'd you come up with?" He leans over to see with visible interest.

The picture has a single person, a short, skeletal figure with green scribbled over top of it that must represent Sans-Serif. He's smiling, as he's surrounded by a variety of colourful hearts.

...It's probably pretty easy to discern what S-4 was trying to draw, but he still eagerly explains.

"See? That's my brother, with the human souls! He'll use them to get us up to the surface!"

It's very obvious just what the picture is supposed to represent. Sans finds himself smiling fondly anyway, as he listens to S-4's attempts to explain it. His enthusiasm in doing so is heartening, really. "that's right, he will. he's doing really well with his training. and so are you. won't be long now." It takes so long for individual humans to fall down into the Underground. But they never last long, once they do. Four souls down, three to go.

Sans nods to himself in grim satisfaction, before reaching out to gently pat S-4 on the shoulder.

"i bet your picture will look even better when it's finished." He moves to turn back to his paperwork. "good job so far, though."

S-4 chuckles softly, pleased with the praise and the touch to his shoulder.

"Yeah. He's doing a lot better than me, though. He's really strong..."

Reminded of his brother, S-4 turns to look at the tube that should have been holding Sans-Serif. It's now empty, so instead, he looks over at the clock.

"...His examination is taking longer than they said..."

They said it was a simple procedure. It shouldn't take more than an hour, and then S-4 could show him the new puzzle he'd come up with.
