[Post-Event Post] I don't need safety, I've grown up
They wake up.
They wake up, and for a moment it's a confusion as two sets of impulses try to sit up, try to roll over, what is this why can't I move-
It all comes flooding back, and the thrashing, twitching body goes still, glassy eyed, panting.
*...
*Hi Chara.
Breathe. Breathe.
Chara groans and presses their palms to their eyes. There's a dual storm of self-loathing here, turbulence kicked up by the past crashing into the future. Things that neither wanted to come to light, exposed. Breathe.
Well then. Damage control. Lock this all away and focus on getting up. They've been sleeping under a bench in the chapel this past month - they touch the back of their head with their fingers where they just cracked it on the pew. Didn't notice, in the heat of the moment. It seems that the Castle always shoves Frisk back into Chara.
They get up, and start walking - no particular destination, but places they are avoiding. The library. The balcony. The swings, certain spots in the garden, the kitchens. They just need to run, and they do, and when running's not enough, when their legs burn and their lungs are filled with knives from the cold air they screech to a halt and scream and punch a window, bright glass shattering, before turning on a vase. Anything inanimate nearby is getting destroyed.
Frisk makes no move to stop them.
For Poke-Frisk and Sparks:
There's something that needs to be done, and it has to be done sooner rather than later. Frisk would prefer to give the apology in person but... that would raise some questions they don't think Chara would particularly want to answer right now.
While they do have control over the body (it aches - Chara themself has retreated to a ball at the far back, spent) they spend some time making enquiries - they don't know where the Frisk with red eyes and the dog monster live, and need to to slide this under a door. They've written an apology letter (and not a Bureau of Communication one).
They feel terrible about attacking Sparks - they're pretty sure that was Sparks, even if he looked different - and it profusely says so.

She really does seem to be ripped from the animes. They can feel their interest in her waning by the second.
And then there's that flash of purple at her throat. Chara is tuned to those sorts of clues - monsters can't seem to avoid telegraphing their attacks with such things sometimes, and picking them up is often vital to a successful fight. And purple makes them think of KARMA and spiders, a binding effect of some kind.
They brace themself, but nothing happens. They half expected her to finish with "YOU!" and start shooting.
*Don't think she'd offer to heal you and then attack you, Chara.
Toriel, is all they think on the matter to Frisk. Perhaps it was just some kind of aid to memory, or some other passive effect. Or maybe it was just aesthetic, to accentuate the point. Still, they're a little more on guard. Creatures of despair, is that so? Very appropriate.]
Then you're in luck. There is one standing right in front of you.
[*Charaaaa
What, are they wrong?]
no subject
[She spreads her hands to accentuate her point. ] Those creatures just look wrong, like they don't fit in the world. And you would have attacked me by now, not stopped to talk or bled or-
[She's getting a little ahead of herself. Shes coughs into a hand. ]
Uh, sorry. I uh, didn't mean to uh, preach at you. Anyway....do you mind telling me your name? its ok if you don't want to...
[ She wants to know what to call them at the very least! Spooky and Mean Red Eyed Kid isn't much of a name. ]

[The tone is far too chipper. They are feeling especially contrary today, so they lift up the injured hand, concentration furrowing their brow. It's... harder, when they haven't had outside magic poured into them.
Fuck Kalak. They want to rip what they have of them out of their head, pour acid on it, and set it on fire. Just another piece of someone else jostling up their soul! What does that make it now, five? Come right on in! Nevermind the lock on the door, Chara's place is an open party!
They grit their teeth and push the energy forward even as they push the memories back. Blackness and redness starts at the tips of their fingers and curls inwards until it stops at the wrist, the pain receding with it. Maybe they should have used the other hand. It's too late now.
They wave the now very two dimensional looking hand at Madoka - no matter the angle, that's how it appears.]
My name is Chara. If you would prefer I attack you, I can certainly oblige.
[Do it you coward you fool. They are itching to break things. She did not mean to preach. A fight is just what the doctor ordered, or at least what the doctor was not heard to strongly advise against.
The doctor is Frisk, in this case. Frisk who is being very ignored, and resenting it.]
no subject
[She starts a little, little neat gloved hands curling into fists.] Eh? What! No! I want to help! Not attack eachother, if you can use magic we're all on the same side, you know!
no subject
At the idea of them being a magical girl, Chara just. Starts laughing. And doesn't stop. This might go on for a while, before finishing abruptly with a-.]
No.
[They can feel Frisk entertaining the idea of being a magical kid at least. Traitor.
*We could ask one of the Mettatons for costume ideas.
They can tell it's mostly teasing but also, no. (If some part of them is relieved that Frisk is back to playful needling, it's kicked away.) If they were a mahou tsukai then they would be one of the dark, villain-y ones.
*Edgy.
*Your clothes even went all red and black too when, well - that's kinda like a transformation!
Speaking of... Chara lets their hand fall by their side. They aren't particularly inclined to dismiss the spell until she's gone - from the hollow sensation in their chest they can tell they aren't going to be able to do it a second time in this encounter if they dismissed it. But there's no more point in waving it around.]
The same side. Fighting these 'creatures of despair'. Is that the only thing you use your magic for?
[Which is to say, they don't entirely buy every single magic user being on the same side. People have differing motivations, and humans are terrible. Magic only adds another component into the mix.]
no subject
Then again, she can't see any mark from their soul gem. Chara is the proper age to contract so else could they have magic??
Their next question has her mind freeze and stop for a moment, but this is one that fixes itself quickly. It's something Madoka wants, anyway. ]
Of course! Magical girls should work together! If there's an evil to defeat, isn't it better to just put fights aside?
no subject
[They agree, and their smile bares teeth. And then closes slightly when she freezes up again - once is a coincidence, two is a trend. It doesn't seem to last long, and so they put it aside, though the odd look they give her lingers.]
I think you will find there are precious few things to shoot without qualm here.
[That seems to stir Frisk - the lightning arc of a realisation striking across the shared mind.
*Chara!
*The monsters - she might...!
Do they look like they care?
Chara.
The red voice stops them in their mental tracks. Did they just. Chara can feel the threat in the words. Well then. Understood. You have made yourself quite clear.
*That's not-]
The monsters are people, after all. You are not a murderer like myself, are you?
[Chara is not going to call them good without descending into another laughing fit but they will tell that truth. It's just that people are primarily awful.]
no subject
Ahaha, thats fine! I'm sorry if I'm being embarrassing.
[She just looks confused at that and then claps her hands together in recognition. ]
Huh monsters? Oh! You mean the monsters like the ghost! They're, those aren't creatures of despair! I don't fight for the fun of it!
[Honestly, they're probably more similar to Madoka then she'd know. Something made of hope that runs only on their souls power. But a look of abject horror crosses her face and she stills.]
M-murderer? [Chara? A murderer? She doesn't believe it, but something wiser whispering in her head tells her that the youngest souls are the most volatile, the most vulnerable to acts of despair if given power. ]
no subject
[The tone is equal parts testy and clearly enjoying her reaction. This is more like it. They feel they have more of an upper hand now.]
You seem so surprised.
[The tone is dry with a slight mocking edge - they're just needlessly antagonising her at this point. It seems she's run into monsters already, so she isn't quite as much of a new arrival as they were assuming. It also means, to Frisk's relief, that they're likely safe. Chara finds themself relaxing just a little as well, to their bafflement. There's at least two monsters who have had enough harm in their lives.
*Aw, you care!
It's advantageous, Frisk. Frisk makes a mental 'sure, sure' motion at them.]
You should consider fighting for fun. I highly recommended it.
[Also they highly have a death wish.]
no subject
Thats.....
[What do you do when some kid a few years younger the you just fesses up to murder? She doesn't know how to deal with this. ]
Uh, yeah, I am suprised! I don't really know....
I'm sure you had a good reasons!! It's just...awful to hear that?
[Kids don't kill without a good reason, she watched a few crime dramas in her life. Enough to know that there is usually a reason. ]
I think any fight for the right cause is fun...but I don't like hurting people.
[Liar. She enjoys the rush of power as much as anyone. She just doesn't like getting hurt. ]
no subject
[Morality is in the action, not the result or reason after all, is it not. The tone is matter-of-fact, deliberately disinterested, uninjured hand coming up to hook under their chin.
If you're the bad guy, don't you gotta have a villainous plan?
Haha, you're just a kid like me.
They wouldn't call leg-caught-in-a-bear-trap vengeance a 'good reason'.]
You find them fun, and yet you dislike causing harm. What kind of fights have you been in, then, where you are not causing pain in some capacity?
[Which one is true? They're pointing out the contradiction mostly to turn the screws rather than judge (although the easy way out is to declare the opponent isn't a person), but there is the definition of conflict to consider here.]
no subject
[She doesn't have a very good answer to that. ]
Well! I'm not really fighting people! I'm helping them by defeating despair! Thats more like healing then fighting! And working together with friends and using magic and being useful, thats a lot of fun! That's what makes it worth it.
Not...real fights though. Those are just awful.
no subject
*It's being a troll.]
Forgive me, but since when was despair something tangible?
['I'm not really fighting people'. But she is fighting 'evil', 'creatures'. It's more pointing out the oddity of calling it simply despair in their eyes - how are the two related, really?]
Congratulations, I suppose.
[On your saccharine life. They wouldn't wish their experiences on another (except perhaps another them), but what they can never achieve fails to hold their interest and it comes across in their tone.]
what?? this muse is? back?
[Yes. Things. She's not as big on binarys as Sayaka but she's not really the type to look to deep into things either. If something is evil and hurting people, and shes told has to fight it, then she'll fight it.
She winces at the sarcasm. ]
Oh..I'm sorry. If that was the wrong thing to say, I mean. I don't mean to brag or be a jerk or anything! I'll stop talking about myself...
: D
*Things...
*Why do they hurt people?
Chara is no pacifist, and thinks self defense (or vengeance) are fair, but they do like how pulling this thread is making her squirm, and Frisk has just provided them with ammo.]
Things that hurt people. Why do they do that, do you think?
[After all, they're a really really bad thing that hurts people. Even thoughtless mechanism has reason behind it. The apology is waved off, sailed past, even if it does mollify an unspoken fanged part of them with it's deference.]
