Out by the edge, near sunset, someone is doing Something Very Stupid. It isn't the first time. One can only hope it will be the last.

It's not the worst thing he could be doing. He's 99% sure it won't kill him--it's only magic. He's successfully regained some skill with bone attacks and extra sets of hands, so why has this been so difficult? He misses them, even though they're really nothing more than echoes of his own personality, not creatures of their own right. He created them. He perfected them. He's proud of them.

To anyone watching, he doesn't look like he's doing anything. Standing stiff and still, hands clasped behind his back, watching the sun go down. Until something nearly as tall as he is explodes into being, floating in midair.

And then...

He starts to melt. He's overreached, he doesn't have the energy to keep his shape together. Legs sag and fuse, fingers drip like pudding, face loses all detail. Two minutes later, he's nothing more than a sad, mostly shapeless whiteblack lump of goo in the dirt. The Blaster skull nudges at him, like a huge curious nightmarish puppy.

Worth it.

Yeah. He's trying with that one.

But that certain other monster is a much better topic. Mettaton's cheeks flush a bit.

"Yes."

[I like him. Of course, I'm bound to like any skeleton from the Underground...]

All the Sanses and Papyri in every single life, oh yes. Go go skeleton brothers.

[It's good to see him, isn't it?]

"He isn't the one from our world, is he? Sans never said he was in to science."

[voidster]

[Not from yours or mine. It's all the same to me--he's still very much the same.]

Bright and cheerful and kind and brave and a hideously bad chef. Yep. It's Papyrus.

[aghostinthemachine]

"He is. It's nice to have properly met him." The skeleton's reaction to seeing the robot in his EX form was very amusing. "His energy is infectious. He was so interested in how this place worked."

[voidster]

[I know. I look forward to helping him if I can--I don't understand much of it myself. No equipment.]

...If he had all his old lab equipment, hell, maybe those who want to leave would be home already. But. It's not going to happen. Just shrug it off and have a good mental laugh at Mettaton's blush, my goodness.

[aghostinthemachine]

"I wouldn't mind watching you two work. I'm sure it's a sight to see."

Probably sound like a bunch of Greek to him but still amusing. Seeing people be passionate about things they like is both satisfying and inspiring.

[voidster]

He bunches himself up, sliding backwards to rest against the headboard, 'sitting' up instead of making a mockery of how normal people lie down. [Feel free to join us anytime.]

...After all, he's seen Mettaton be flustered, 'heard' it in text, but never has he seen the two together with his own eyes, really. It's probably something and that something is adorable.

"You'll have to let me know next time you two have something planned then!"

Yeah. With just Papyrus, he can mostly keep his cool. With Gaster AND Papyrus though? He knows Gaster finds them adorable together and willingly adds fuel to the fire.

But Mettaton's a bit of a masochist and wants to challenge himself.

Wish him luck.

Upon seeing the older monster sit up and gain some of his shape back, Mettaton's smile widens.

"You look better."

[voidster]

It's easier to sign when not lying down on his back. Oddly enough, his sweater design has more detail than his face. (And his hands, of course. Vital.)

[Nothing is wrong with me, other than a lack of magic. I will if you will, though I don't believe any of us plan things.]

[aghostinthemachine]

That is curious. He wonders why that is but decides not to ask. It would be rude, after all.

"I know. I still worry though." A pause. "And I'll let you know. We planned on painting one of the walls in the main hall a bunch of different colors."

[voidster]

[You're not the only one who needs to worry a little less.]

And he doesn't mean himself. Silly bunch of worrywarts, however sweet it is.

...That does sound adorable. [Do you? Have you found enough paint?]

Too bad that's who he thinks he's talking about.

"Like yourself?"

The glambot turns slightly to face more towards Gaster. "We haven't yet. But we're only doing one brick at a time."

[voidster]

[No, not me. I was speaking of someone smaller and more human.]

Frisk. Who else human do they have in common?

[Designs or are you sticking to solid colors?]

[aghostinthemachine]

That is true.

"Ah, yes. They have a big heart, don't they? And we're just going to randomize it. Some solid colors, some designs. I'm looking forward to it."

[voidster]

[They're very protective of we monsters, aren't they? Do they act the same way on the surface?]

Probably. He can't imagine the typical Frisk being any other way. Wouldn't want to. It's sweet, though they do need to take care of themself more.

[Good.]

[aghostinthemachine]

"They are," he giggles. "And they do, although the Queen is a little controlling of what they can and can't do. Sort if spoils the fun."

[voidster]

[She has good sense. I can't imagine any of us who'd be better for Frisk to live with.]

It's Toriel and he knew her, once upon a time. Still does. It's only that she doesn't know him.

[aghostinthemachine]

"That's quite true. I can't help but wonder what happened to their human family though..."

[voidster]

A pause, and a mood shift downwards. He'll allow it. His body language isn't exactly easy to read when he's mush.

[I assume they were very unpleasant humans. I wouldn't ask Frisk about it.]

[aghostinthemachine]

"You think...?" Mettaton blinks. "I assumed they were just exploring when they stumbled into Mount Ebott.

[voidster]

[I doubt they were.]

Good, responsible parents wouldn't allow a child to hike up a mountain by themselves... and then not say a word when the child comes back out of the mountain adopted by a different species.

[aghostinthemachine]

Hey, despite acting like he knows all about humans, Mettaton's pretty damn clueless. SURELY PARENTS TRUST THEIR CHILDREN ENOUGH TO LET HIM HIKE UP A MOUNTAIN?

"Oh. What if they were an orphan and their parents died when they were really young?"

That's a slightly happier(?) idea than thinking they had terrible parents.

[voidster]

[Someone should have been caring for them. I don't believe anyone kind was. Please don't ask them about it.]

No need to make Frisk uncomfortable when they will never lack for good family again, really. Perhaps he should change the subject, this is hardly cheerful.

Mettaton remains silent for a moment. To think humans could actually be bad like that still baffles him.

"I'll remember not to. They have a better family now anyways."
